This isn't an issue with gnome-terminal. It appears to be an issue in openbox itself. Same thing happens with this - alltray -s -na -i ~/.icons/irssi- invert.png xterm -title irssi xterm -title irssi and gnome-terminal -t irssi don't take a title, they just use the default.
