[Bug 268331] Re: evolution-alarm-notifier being killed
Is this bug still viewed as an issue, and is the Ubuntu bugs list the right place to report it? As an end-user (not a developer) of Ubuntu using fully updated 8.04 LTS in a small office network, it is very frustrating that this bug is so severe that the popup alarm function of Evolution 2.2.31 cannot be used (staff have missed meetings). The bug is marked as Critical yet not confirmed? It is marked as present in the Gnome Bugzilla pages (557449), yet not of sufficient importance for anything to be done to solve it. The bug has been an issue for over a year, yet if linux is to compete against MS products this surely needs to be solved? -- evolution-alarm-notifier being killed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/268331 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Yes. Killed or it plain exits (1) itself. It usually does so when it pops up a reminder. The reminder shows very briefly and then goes away when the process exits with a return status of 1. -- evolution-alarm-notifier being killed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/268331 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

could you open the bug on bugzilla.gnome.org then, you seem to be able to trigger the issue easily and the software coders will likely have a better idea about what could trigger your issue -- evolution-alarm-notifier being killed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/268331 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 268331] Re: evolution-alarm-notifier being killed
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium Assignee: (unassigned) = Ubuntu Desktop Bugs (desktop-bugs) Status: New = Invalid -- evolution-alarm-notifier being killed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/268331 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 268331] Re: evolution-alarm-notifier being killed
Sebastien, You did not read my description closely enough. There is no crash. Apport will not be invoked. The evolution-alarm-notifier process is getting killed (SIGKILL) by something else. Please reopen this bug to reflect that I have not failed to provide a valid crash report where none is actually available and this bug is still completely valid. -- evolution-alarm-notifier being killed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/268331 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

the bug has been closed because crashers should be sent using apport and reopened when you pointed that apport doesn't work on this one, not sure what informations would be useful there but could you open it on bugzilla.gnome.org too where the people writting the code will actually read, they might have better comment about their code than ubuntu triagers -- evolution-alarm-notifier being killed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/268331 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 268331] Re: evolution-alarm-notifier being killed
I'm not sure how you attached gdb to the process to get the info you posted (One day I'll get around to reading the rest of that man page!)...but I will say that I have definitely noticed that the evolution-alarm-notify does disappear quite often...and with no notice whatsoever...very annoying. When the process is running, I get alarms for all my appointments, even if evolution itself is not running...but this only lasts for a little while. When I notice that I didn't get an alarm for a particular event, I check the processes and sure enough evolution-alarm-notify is gone. No error messages or log file entries to be found. Restarting evolution fixes it for a short while...the process shows back up and I start getting new alarms (any missed alarms don't come up but I think that's probably a separate issue, judging from some of the other bug reports) It has gotten so bad that I'm considering writing a little cron script to check for the missing process and restart evolution if necessary...now if I can only figure out how to make kdocker put it back in the application dock ;-) Anyway, I'm running an up-to-date 32-bit Hardy 8.04 (current kernel 2.6.24-19-generic) with Evolution 2.22.3.1. -- evolution-alarm-notifier being killed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/268331 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
