In Jaunty kernel Linux kevin-dt1b 2.6.28-11-generic #35-Ubuntu SMP Wed Mar 18 21:55:34 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux this error does not occur at all. I haven't needed to make any new directories. I now get a new unrelated problem in Jaunty with gedit see bug #346293. In Intrepid I still get the error still with 2.6.27-11 kernel (latest updates today installed). Sebastien, you were correct in assuming that there was a missing directory. In my /root/.gnome2 directory there is no gedit directory, but there is a gedit-2 file. As soon as I made the new /root/.gnome2/gedit directory the fault was cured. If I try the same now with kernel 2.6.27-11 64 bit I get a different error. The method has changed very slightly as there is a new button displayed when I preview the document to be printed.
