This shouldn't be a duplicate. This is the same as my problem, and
unlike 202089, in this bug killing pulseaudio doesn't fix the problem

At least for me, it's not a duplicate:
In the other report, a error message when using aplay is indicated in the
initial post.
For me, aplay works without error message, but I just don't hear anything!
