I've got a HP EliteBook 8730w: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF06a/321957-321957-64295-3740645-3329741-3784202.html The problem is Ubuntu won't detect when I'm running on battery, or even that I have one. I've activated the option to always show power mode in the notification area, but it always shows that the laptop is running on AC power even when it isn't. I can't even do "cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state" since it freezes my entire system.
