The problem, though, seems to persist in Jaunty, being identical to what
happened in Intrepid. I guess it's the ssh passphrase prompt that pops
up (in the System Monitor app window, a process called ssh starts when
the prompt window appears after I go to the sftp address in

could you try if that's still an issue in jaunty? do you get a gnome-
keyring password prompt or a ssh passphrase one? the ssh agent not being
used issue has been fixed now in jaunty

I am afraid I have to say no to both having tried ssh and smb; is there
perhaps a test address up somewhere on the internet that I could try?
I have only just got an sftp address from my university for my personal
folders on the school so my experience with these things
