I have the same problem, and really affected by it. If Ctrl+PgUp/PgDn is reserved, then my suggestion is: keep Ctrl+Alt+PgUp/PgDn (maybe some people love them), but add some other key combination too. Maybe Alt+PgUp and Alt+PgDn. These are not used for anything. Today I accidentally hitted Ctrl+Alt+Backspace instead of Ctrl+Alt+PgUp. I'm affected by this bug as well. It's really disturbing my workflow, since gedit behaves differently from other apps such as gnome-terminal. Having that said, I consider this a bug (with low severity though) as it's a bad and not consistent userexperience.
