I have the same problem here with the Jaunty beta...
when starting jaunty, gnome-panel crashes after login
when trying to logout, i do get the message that gnome-panel is still running
and not responding

with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the
(1) i'm using jaunty, not a stable release.
(2) using ubuntu, but the crash does not produce a crash report in /var/crash
