could you run:
- $(which evince)
- ldd $(which evince)
and copy the log there?
the issue is probably due to a local version installed taking over the
ubuntu one

right, the log confirm that you installed a version without using the
packaging system and it's taking over the ubuntu build and breaking your
installation
libpoppler-glib.so.4 = /usr/local/lib/libpoppler-glib.so.4
(0xb78b)
clean that and it should be working correctly
** Changed in:
Forgive me, may be because it is my ignorance but I uninstalled
libpoppler-glib4 and it automatically removed gimp inkscape and tracker tool.
So I installed it again but the problem remained. But it is interesting that my
tracker tool had also problems probably it is because od that libpoppler.
you should remove the file /usr/local/lib/libpoppler-glib.so.4

It seems that evince didn't upgrade successfully.
Can you please try removing it and re-installing evince?
Let us know how it went!
Good luck

try this: sudo aptitude purge evince
then check to see if /usr/lib/evince/1/backends/libpdfdocument.so is still
there. if it is, remove it
then install evince again...

that's really strange...
a google search for undefined symbol: poppler_page_get_thumbnail_pixbuf
returns nothing
and evince works fine for me on Jaunty...
the only other thing that comes to mind is user account settings: try
removing everything under ~/.gnome2/evince, and then try opening evince
no it did not work either. It may be a real bug. I use latex(texlive)
and I'd installed many packages related with pdf long time ago which I
don't even remember now. It may be smth. to with that. But thanks for
trying to help.
