This happens to me always (close lid and manual suspend) and indeed is a
bit of a security concern to me too.
I have /apps/gnome-power-manager/lock/suspend set to true.

This only happens to me when i right click on something then close the
lid on my laptop. it also makes it take longer to suspend as well
