I have a very similar issue. Since I upgraded my laptop to Karmic (9.10)
each morning when I boot up and start evolution it crashes the first
time. I usually run evolution --force-shutdown from the console and
start up again with no problems. I did not notice this problem

Running valgrind as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Valgrind actually allows
evolution to work; my Valgrind.log attached. It appears to work after
running valgrind possibly with some DEBUG variables exported, as as I
now see the following in my terminal session when loading evolution:

Actually I'm not sure if it is the same bug. I had this issue last week
and was fixed with the patch mentioned by Ben Court. I had to reinstall
about 2 days ago and of this moment the system is fully updated with the
Main Server

Hi I' not sure if this is a new bug but I am experiencing the same
issues but on 386 architecture. The output of running evolution in the
terminal;
