I created a new user on my machine, and tried keyboard resizing in the default environment. This worked fine, but then, it was all being done with appearance/visual effects set to normal, not none. In normal visual effects (some level of compiz, I guess), the window resize is done with a shadow;

I can't reproduce the behaviour on the testuser at all. I also find that I can only get the bad behaviour if I have the menu bar of the terminal turned off. I also notice that the font on the testuser's terminal is different from the one I'm getting, though we're both using the Use system
