I see this bug is marked as fixed, but I'm still having the same issue on
Ubuntu 8.10/Gedit 2.24.2
This is a straight, out-of-the-box install of Ubuntu and Gedit - not built from
source.
Any further information or work-arounds available?

Happens only with gedit, tried eog and firefox , they don't show any password.
