Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When listing files in a directory in Nautilus, and there is a subdirectory with
a huge amount of files in it, the listing of the directory takes a long, long
time.

Example:

/home/user/Downloads has 30 files and folders
/home/user/Downloads/Logs has 300.000 small files in it (for example, log files)

The display of /home/user/Downloads will take up to a minute or more to
display. It seems Nautilus tries to get information about the files in
every subdirectory as well, and this is not threaded so it makes the
main listing wait until its done.

Im not sure this is a actual bug. It depends on if Nautilus is supposed
to work this way or not. :) When listing files in a terminal, the
listing of /home/user/Downloads shows up right away.

This is in version 2.26.2 of Nautilus, included in Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty).

Im not sure this is a actual bug, its more of a performance tweak that
would be nice to have, unless its supposed to be quick even in this
situation. I guess it depends on how its supposed to work.
