This is still an issue on the latest version of Mint. I am running Mint 18.2 Cinnamon 64Bit. Every single time I restart my computer, restart x-server, logout of a user profile, or do a hard shut down, the desktop icons revert from my meticulous arrangement to alphabetically aligned to a grid.

It is still a minor nuisance (bug) in 10.4 that has not been fixed yet. I've been keeping the desktop icons aligned until now. To tell you the truth there is no need to reboot and if I log out of session and log back in the desktop settings remain intact. So far I have not applied suggested
