I can confirm this. The same behavior still happens in Gutsy. It looks unintuitive and gives an impression that operation hasn't worked out. Since gnome panle user switcher is enabled by default in Gutsy a gdm theme with a user list should be enabled by default. The behavior has changed in Dapper final: now it is the password that must be typed twice. It is better, but the problem remains.
