I am getting this problem as well I have a /etc/gdm.conf-custom, i have
backed that up to /etc/gdm.conf-custom-bck (using sudo mv /etc/gdm.conf-
custom /etc/gdm.conf-custom-bck), when launching gdmsetup gdm.conf-
custom gets recreated, still segfaulting though. I have included a
strace of gdmsetup
I also have /etc/gdm/gdm.conf-custom, but I get a segfault when I run
gdmsetup. I even tried removing it and replacing with the default one,
reinstalling gdm, etc.

I don't seem to have a backup of gdm.conf-custom. Can someone post the
default for me?

I can also confirm that the fix works - I had deleted gdm.conf-custom
after tinkering with xgl and ran into the same problem.

No, no problems at all. gdmsetup is sweet :)

I can confirm that the segfault was due to the absence of /etc/gdm/gdm
.conf-custom after playing around with xgl/compiz. The instructions on
the forums say that one should delete this file to disable xgl/compiz.
It appears as mentioned above that removing this file causes gdmsetup to
segfault.
Maybe it has been fixed with the update to 2.14.5, marking it as fixed
for now. Feel free to reopen if you still get the issue

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ gdmflexiserver --command=GET_CUSTOM_CONFIG_FILE

That's what I get. gdmsetup doesn't recreate the file for me. I did a sudo
touch /etc/gdm/gdm.conf-custom, but I still get this error.

comment from upstream:
Note the call to ve_config_get is being passed a NULL file pointer. This is
odd.
gdmsetup gets the configuration file names by calling these commands:
gdmflexiserver --command=GET_CONFIG_FILE
gdmflexiserver --command=GET_CUSTOM_CONFIG_FILE
Are either of these commands
Does anybody get the issue with /etc/gdm/gdm.conf-custom installed?

The common point might have been that we all have played with xgl/compiz at
some point. ATM, I'm not using xgl/compiz (I uninstalled the repository
packages) and my configuration files are back to what they were before trying
them out.
1) The reason I personally don't have gdm.conf-custom is
I take back what I said on my previous comment:
2) After removing gdm.conf-custom, it does not get recreated. Even when
manually recreating it from backup, the bug still occurs.
I don't seem to be getting this bug anymore.
I don't know if it is related to the latest package updates or the

Thank you for your comments, I've forwarded the issue upstream:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=340864. It looks like the
common point is that you don't have a /etc/gdm/gdm.conf-custom. Do you
know how that happened since it's supposed to be shipped by the package?
Removing it doesn't
