I am also having this problem. I plug the player in and the GUI shows no
signs of it being plugged in. lsusb show the player but I can not
manually mount the player. I have all of the latest updates.
lsusb produces this:

New kernel was supposed to fix this. Glad it did :)

It didn't work either for me (Kubuntu Dapper AMD64) but I tried again today
(using latest updates) and it is working now ! :-)

Sorry, I've tried that already with no success. The behaviour under USB
1 is exactly the same as it is under USB 2.0.

This looks like trouble with the USB 2.0 driver. Can you please do
* remove the stick
* sudo rmmod ehci-hcd
* stick it in again and check if it works
?
