Public bug reported:

Using a a palm V, connecting through the KL5KUSB105D palm serial-to-usb
converter, I can see that the device 'dev/ttyUSB0 DOES get created when
the device is plugged in, but gpilotd is unable  to bind to the device:

(gnome-pilot:6367): gpilotd-WARNING **: Unable to bind to pilot
gpilotd-Message: setting PILOTRATE=57600

using hte serial device directly doesn't seem to work at all.
