Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

Upon starting gnome-system-monitor, it and dbus-daemon begin to use an
entire CPU core, causing other programs to start slowing down if the
second core is in use. This is on an AMD X2 4800+.

Clicking the cross to close the monitor does not work - it has to be
killed through it's own process list.
