I would also like to be able to use mouse scrolling for changing the volume etc. What I would also suggest is being to able to middle-click on the icon. Sound should then be immediately muted/unmuted, Rhythmbox should pause/play the current song. This was possible before and could confuse users af

Don't forget about the mouse-over popups that applications would give. I like being able to check my laptop's battery percentage, what song I'm listening to, and how long until my next typing break without having to click anything. The way it is now, an extra click has been added to all of those.
