I see this as well every few days on a laptop I administer. The workaround from Planet Ubuntu has to be used to get things working again. I am going to mark this Confirmed since the reporter provided the screenshots and the Planet Ubuntu article at http://en.andregondim.eti.br/?p=160 describes and displays the problem perfectly. I also am going to up the priority since in a normal default desktop install, the average user will no longer be able to logout without having to use the power button, which could conceivably cause loss of data. This bug is so common, that it is reported on Planet Ubuntu (with some sort of workaround): http://en.andregondim.eti.br/?p=160 C'mon folks, let's do something with this bug report (or any another one related that is more well documented if you want). There's no way I can consider this bug as low importance since: - Gnome panel and related applets/notification stuff is at the heart of the Ubuntu Lucid experience - Ubuntu Lucid is a LTS, not just an ordinary interim release. BTW, I'm clearly not a developer, but I'm ready to help as a long time Ubuntu advanced user who could do some testing/log based report with clear and helpful directions.
