Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I have a very large collection of music. Greater than 5,000 tracks
encoded as FLAC files. Sometimes when I start Rhythmbox using the
Applications->Sound & Video, the status icon shows up immediately but
left clicking on the icon produces no drop down menu and there is no way
to show the GUI. I have to kill the process (SIGTERM) then start it
from the command line twice. The first results in the exact same
behavior as if I started it from the menu system. The second works.
Keep in mind I start the second while the first is still running. I
start the first and place the process in the background:

rhythmbox &

then start a second

rhythmbox

The second pops up a GUI and seems to kill the first or at least sends a
message tot he first and exits. After executing the second, all is well
and there is only one rhythmbox process running. And, the menu drops
down from the status icon.

This may be a simple case of a large data set and a disk that needs to
spin up. The GUI thread is blocked by initialization over a large
number of songs.

In the initial case, where I start Rhythmbox from the menu, waiting a
while after starting does not fix the lack of menu. I do have to
restart the process.
