I have this problem too. Similar (maybe same) bugs are bug #666501 and bug
#670430
I'm using Ubuntu 10.10, I didn't notice this bug in Ubuntu 10.04.

I can confirm this bug on my system. Ubuntu 10.10, i915 with Compiz.
I found gnome-terminal consistently not updating the title bar correctly
while switching between directories.
