Anoyingly the Quick Time test works fine for me also. I still get the error with the 3 files I tried to open yesterday, all 3 play fine in VLC. I don't know if this will help here is the CODEC info: Stream 0 Type: Audio Codec: MPEG AAC Audio (mp4a) Language: English Channels:

Sorry - forgot to add: I've been using Ubuntu since 7.10 and have had it installed on the same netbook (an MSI Wind variant) updating every time - this is the first pulse-audio issue that I've had, so I don't think that it's an issue with an unsupported card or whatnot. FYI, here's the lspci:
