Thanks for your bug. Did you try to change the idle option or the lock
one in the preferences dialog? Otherwise you can use gconf-editor and
change the /apps/gnome-power-manager/lock_on_suspend key. Do you still
get the time out error?

Importance:
Is there anyway to turn off the resume password requirement? Makes it
difficult for guests and my four year old to use the computer unless I
leave on all the time. Which I prefer not because of energy usage and
noise. If so then I propose making that function part of the root set
power management
