Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

When selecting a contact from the contact list, right-clicking, and
clicking 'Recent conversation' (or doing the same from a private message
window), the recent conversation window appears and then begins
expanding to the right, off the screen.

The top, left, and bottom parts of the window stay in place. Maximizing
the window does bring it under control, but un-maximizing it causes it
to start again. It will expand past the edge of the screen and beyond.

This *may* be related to the word-wrap issue on bug #433651 but further
testing would be needed to confirm.
