Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed
This bug affected me on a previous release of Ubuntu,
but it's no longer happen in an up to date Ubuntu 13.10.
Note : I use the french keyboard map (français - variante)

I uses also a french keyboard. As Julien reported, Ctrl+space doesn't work
anymore.

According to french community documentation page (http://doc.ubuntu-
fr.org/rhythmbox#la_barre_d_espace_ne_fonctionne_pas_pour_la_recherche),
another workardound is to switch the default french keyboard map
(français - variante) to another (french). It's known to work but it
changes map for a lot
I am also affected in Ubuntu Precise, but Ctrl + Space does not work for
me, music plays / pauses anyway. I also use a French keyboard.

space bar do play-pause / Can't type space in
Affects me but I found a workaround : my keyboard is french and was set
as french _alternate_. French alternate inserts insecable spaces in
place of regular spaces with the space bar. Setting i back to regular
french layout did the trick.
