The dialog comes from gtk, upstream already stated that programs need to
provide a .desktop and it's not the filemanager/selector job to create
those. They don't plan to add that feature to gtk itself but it's easy
enough to create a such entry

Hi, I have the same behaviour on a freshly installed Oneiric with .tc
files for TreueCrypt. Actually the other machine where I upgraded from
11.04 to 11.10 has kept the assignment and .tc files open with
TrueCrypt. So I guess there could be a workaround by editing a config
file? But which?

I am suffering the same problem, except that I am not under Oneiric, but
under Ubuntu Natty. I need to add PDF Studio (non standard Java app
-PDF Studio-) but there is no physical way to add it into the menu. Is
there a temporary work around?
