comment or a duplicate in this bug report and It is possible that the

I've also encountered this bug. Ralph Corderoy is right that this
problem is a major one. For the next update to 6.10 CD ISO, may I
suggest that the auth line in the options file be commented out while
the network-admin interface is not yet fixed (possibly by putting an
option there)?

I've just installed Ubuntu 6.10 and have hit this problem having used
System - Administration - Networking to configure the modem.
/etc/ppp/peers/ppp0 doesn't contain noauth, unlike a much older version
of Ubuntu I used to use, probably 5.04. Consequently, pppd complains
during `ifup ppp0' as
