Could you try if that's still an issue with the new gdm in karmic?

Hi, I have this problem too on Ubuntu Intreprid (latest updates)
The cause of the problem is that my /home directory is on a ext3
partition and my / partition is on a reiserfs partition.
The /home partition reached the max mount count (31), so normally I'm used that
it checks the drive in

My DHCP requests don't take 25s any more, so therefore I'm not seeing
this issue any more (Gutsy).
Since my DHCP situation has been resolved, I can unfortunately not say
whether the Ubuntu bug is still there.

Hi there
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with
the development version of Ubuntu, Hardy Heron?
I see this bug on Gutsy 7.10 with NFS mounted home directories.
I note here that in /etc/rc5.d, gdm is started before nfs:
S13gdm
S20nfs-common
I'm not yet sure if renumbering gdm to S21gdm fixes the problem.

Yes, but I'm still on Edgy. My upgrade to Feisty is blocked by bug
108098.

Thank you for your bug. What version of Ubuntu do you use? Do you use a
local directory for your user mounted by fstab? or NFS? or some pam
module to mount it?

I *think* this should answer your questions, but I might have mis-
understood something as well. If you want more than this, ask again:

DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu 6.10
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ mount|grep home
file01:/home on /home type
I can't confirm that and I've no NFS setup to test. Did you do any
change to your startup script? Other people use NFS without any problem
so I doubt that's a default setup bug. Marking unconfirmed, maybe some
NFS user will be wanting to try to figure what is happening there
** Changed in: gdm
Can't recall having changed my startup scripts. What I have done though
that made this start happening was that I moved my HD to a new machine.
According to my /var/log/daemon.log it takes about 25s for dhclient to
acquire an IP address on the new machine. Since that's unusually long,
I'd guess
That looks like a good explanation for that bug, boot doesn't block on
the network and it's likely than starting network to gdm is faster than
the dhcp reply then, not sure that's a gdm bug, you should fix your dhcp
server rather
