Haven't used Feisty for about two months now. I'm not sure I will
again. Too much time invested in Corel files Corel stuff won't work
with Wine.

from your description it looks like that the Switch User didn't bring
you to the gdm login dialog but to the gnome-screensaver unlock dialog,
can you confirm that? Could you try to run gdmflexiserver --startnew
from a command line and note to a comment if it works and what it's
printing?

I re-enabled automatic login for my desktop, when went fine.
First Try: When tried switching to the other user the first time, the
screen went black, then displayed the nVidia splash screen, then went
black again, and finally brought me back to the same desktop as before.
Second Try: When I

I forgot to mention in my last message that running gdmflexiserver
--startnew from the terminal also caused the screen to go blank,
dislplay the nVidia splash screen, then return to the original desktop,
