I am running Ubuntu 11.10 AMD-64, applied all fixes, tried various work-arounds, rebooted a few times, and pressing F10 still displays first menu list. As something of a newbie with Ubuntu, I'll be honest and say that I can't understand quite a bit of the jargon that goes on - what's gtk?
