I'm not an ubuntu user but I've been experiencing that problem. I've
applied patches from here, then applied all patches from ubuntu, that
You apply - still nothing.
Tried to apply the patch from upstream, but vte didn't build.
Ppl here seem to have resolved their problems, but I can't ;/

I can confirm this bug. Oddly enough, if you set the cursor to blink,
the cursor is transparent but the rest of the window is not.
