Somebody just sent me a PPSX file and I ran into the same issue (using
Jaunty up-to-date as of today).
According to Wikipedia[1] PPSX is a "Microsoft Office 2007 XML Show"
document. Ubuntu recognizes it as a ZIP file. If I change the extension
to PPTX, it's associated with OpenOffice.org Presentat
the current version is the stable one and will not change

i disable the recurring events calendar from top left "calendars" area

This bug also affects me, and makes it impossible to open some PDF files
with evince. Here is another example of a file which triggers this
problem:

A possible workaround is to convert the file to Postscript using pdf2ps.

I don't know if it's related but if the laptop stays idle it will change
brightness for a second and then go back to original brightness. Same when I
touch the touchpad after idle time

So yes, this is a regression and it was previously working out of the box
for older version (hardy and intrepid).

PS : At this point this is a major problem for LTSP deployment as it means
that those applications can not be
used with a good user experience on Jaunty. And a Linux deskto
consolekit probably needs this patch:
