I have activated apport by setting the value to 1
I can reproduce the desktop crash consistently. I also have some clean

Would it be possible to get this patch as a PPA? I'm new to Ubuntu and I
don't feel comfortable compiling this thing myself.
Coming from a Windows background, I find this thing to be more of a bug
than a feature. I can understand uniforming things everywhere in the
OS/WM, but it's still annoying
Just to add that gThumb has the same sort of problem with the D300s,
giving the error message An error occurred in the io-library
('Unspecified error'): The supplied vendor or product id (0x0,0x0) is
not valid.

Reopening ubuntu-meta task and subscribing the release team for comment.
It was mistakenly closed before. rss-glx was demoted from recommends to
suggests for gnome-screensaver, but ubuntu-desktop explicitly depends on
it as well. So we need to drop it there as well.

OK, to further add to the confusion, I tried to connect my D300s to to a
XP VMware machine, that resulted in it attempting to read the camera
(after a few Gnome messages about being unable to lock it) and then the
XP VM did the BSOD and rebooted! After that XP seemed uninterested in
the camera,
