This is still an issue with Karmic. I'm experiencing exactly the same
problem. Please let me know what information is needed to finally get
this bug fixed.
Steps to reproduce:
1. System is running on battery, backlight brightness is at the value set in
brightness_dim_battery (50 in my system).
Currently you can solve the problem in karmic:
1. Remove pulseaudio and gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio.
2. upgrade from this ppa: https://launchpad.net/~dtl131/+archive/ppa
3. remove the new volume applet, corrupted with pulseaudio, from

Yes this problem still exists in karmic. After plugging in a camera an
incomprehensible mess of error dialogs is spawned
by the foto app du jour that pops up (either f-spot of gthumb) and photo's
cannot be imported.
After reading the above bug reports I realize this is because gvfs has mounted

same here. I have a WD elements 1tb drive, which has no off switch. As a
result every time i use nautilus i have to wait 6 seconds before it
responds. Of note, the disk is mounted under /extern5/, perhaps if i
mounted under /media it would not spin up. I'll try soon

As an update, network-manager now finally works again in karmic, no more of
those various random crashes and non handling of my network interfaces.
Documentation is still poor, but at least it works.
So, after around 2 years in being broken in various ways in each release after
dapper, it seems
I've successfully used the following workaround from the same forum:
Simple solution: If you plug in your ipod you see the ipod on your
desktop. So just right click on your ipod and select unmount. Don't
select eject!. Then go to Places and your iPod should be in the list -
just click on it to
