I'm interested in getting this resolved, and I might even be willing to
learn the innards of Nautilus just to fix this, but it's unclear what
the impact would be even if I did. It seems that upstream made an
immovable design decision to blaze ahead with the type-to-search
misfeature and that
I am non @Jason, but I've set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences focus-
mode 'sloppy' and then killed gnome-settings-daemon. It got restarted,
and the 'sloppy' setting stayed as I've set it.

To be clear, the term fork usually refers to a split in development
that no longer merges in changes from the other side, which is not what
I'm proposing here. Instead, I'm hoping that if we had a patch to

I suspect there are also other related problems here. I always used the
right control (while pressed) option, but since 13.10 it seems to
identify the Right CTRL key the same as Right ALT on my keyboard. Is
that normal???
Gnome-tweak-tool does not work here either, nothing I set there takes

The PPA does the job, but obviously it's not the same as the good old
