Ok, I "solved" this issue, by moving to Kubuntu. KDE allows the user to
choose what which button should do. So I simply linked the "switch off"
command to the button on my keyboard and now it works as before. No idea
why Ubuntu is making such a mess of a simple feature like this.

Enter the Press button for SLEEP keyboard shortcut.
Then, Press a standard key on your keyboard and move the mouse.
Now, immediately press the power button on the system and also remember your

The cursor is tiny on my hidpi screen when using the snap version of

I believe this issue is resolved in cosmic and is only an issue in
bionic. Normally such issues are marked as "Fix Released" for "ubuntu"
and then proposed to the series bionic. I don't have the permissions to
do this, Robert do you normally work with this workflow ?

I'm trying to remember how the "strange results" manifest themselves.
Today, when I search in G-S for "Stellar" I get good results. From what

Click on the back icon in
I see this also in a live Ubuntu Studio session. I installed
AnimationMaker (snap). The install button stays active after
installation. I ran the Animation app from the menu - all worked fine.
Going back to Gnome Software, the Back button does nothing. All other
buttons and menu icons work,
I'm a user of the Paper Theme and can confirm that this is also
happening! And yes, the bug disappear whenever I use default themes.
Do we know exactly why this happens? So that we could help remove this
very annoying bug for third parties?

Ralf, you can workaround this by adjusting
/etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.bin.evince to have this:
owner /tmp/{,.}gnome_desktop_thumbnail.* w,
then running: sudo apparmor_parser -r /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.evince

I uploaded the sample pdf though the launchpad web instead of attaching
it to an email. evince crashes for me when I try to open it.
