I just installed Gutsy on a laptop previously running Feisty, the
configuration is otherwise unchanged.
Many gtk tooltips now seem to remain on the screen for an unbounded
time, until I move the mouse over them, when they disappear. Just now

I have a similar problem while trying to install onto a Core 2 Duo
machine with a Gigabyte 96SP-DS3 motherboard. Killing and restarting
udevd, then waiting for a while lets the installation get a bit further.

Fastguy, if you are patient then the installation may complete -- I had
to leave it sit for a couple of minutes each time it went to look for
hardware (ie after most interactions.) It's pretty annoying but the
installation did complete. (May not work for you.)

desktop.
If I choose repeat keys in keyboard preferences, every keypress
generates two characters, no more, no less.

restarting metacity made this go away. I suspect a broken gnome schema,

Yes - when I did the first apt-get update, it actually removed
This is a regression from gutsy.
I get the same error when right clicking and then choosing Preferences
from the menu.
Apparently this window is reached by running gnome-keyboard-properties
--a11y. So it seems like you either need a shell script under the old
name or to update the applet, etc.

On hardy, I dragged the accessibility applet to the dock. It appears as
a little wheelchair, as expected. Clicking it gives an error message.
It should bring up the keyboard accessibility control panel.

I have hardy-proposed installed, and have not encountered this bug again
for a long time. I don't use evolution though...

If not using esd is the intended behaviour for gnome in gutsy, then why

This shows the default window size shown when I click show current
layout on the keyboard switcher applet.
There is enough space in the keys to show a legible letter, but the
space is just not used effectively.
