I do see the problem when pausing and continuing after a while, but Gnome Bug 535119 (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=535119) describes problems when seeking through a mp3 file that is played over the network from a cifs volume. This seems to be a different bug, but could be related.
