Public bug reported:
Hi,
I am running tightvncserver from the command line, using the default
options, having set a password. I can then connect to this desktop
remotely, using tightvncviewer under Windows.
This is stable.
However, the windows do not have title bars and may not be moved. I
Interestingly, adjusting the /usr/bin/tightvncserver script back to its
default geometry of 1024x768 appears to have fixed this issue. I do,
however, need to start metacity manually still to get the ability to
move windows. But it does not crash...
The geometry was 1280x1024 with a dept of 24
I spoke too soon. It just took longer to crash. THis time when in the
middle of entering something into a text field.

This is still a problem under jaunty at this point. The workaround
mentioned in this thread re: keyboard layouts does still work, but is
naturally very annoying.
This issue seems to be reported and being tracked on the tightvnc
sourceforge page, but no progress at this stage:
I can reproduce this under jaunty.
1. Open up gnome-system monitor, Processes tab.
2. View - All processes.
3. Open terminal, execute: sudo updatedb
4. Confirm updatedb is running (ps).
5. Refresh gnome-system-monitor list, updatedb does NOT appear in list of
processes.

I can confirm this behaviour under jaunty, following the steps provided.
It is confusing!

I'd also recommend reporting this upstream, via:

And link the issue to this Bug as appropriate. I had a quick look but
could not see anything matching this issue on there.

Hi,
The documentation which appears when Help is hit from the gdmsetup gui
is not very helpful. It brings up the full gdm configuration
documentation, mostly referencing text file configuration, which for the
lay-user is not at all helpful with
