Firefox 3 AND Evolution AND Pidgin starts offline. No, Pidgin is looking
for a connection. What I have to do is to disconnect and connect again

Firefox 2 did not have this problem.
I use HSDPA USB modem.
I think this is not a firefox-bug as more online softwer have this

The Firefox workaround works! Thanks a lot, now starts my Firefox ONLINE

To remake the problem, try this. (Evolution 2.24.2, Ubuntu 8.10.)
1. Compose a new html mail and insert a huge text. (I tried with the inserted
one here, see below.)
2. Add html atachments. (I tried with the attached ones, with all, no archived,
just the pure files.)

I upgraded to Ubuntu 8.10 and I get the brand new Evolution. When I start it,
it remains hidden. Perhaps because of the 1 GB mail I started to POP-download.

When I run it from terminal, it says:

OK, i opened it there too.

UPDATE: It is not a POP-problem, I switched off the POP feature in my
mail-system on the web. It seems to be the problem with the new mail
indexing system. I have 1,5 + 1 GB mails in two folders perhaps the new

Where shall I comment? Here or at gnome.org?
I'm pretty sure, the problem is about indexing huge mailboxes. Renaming

Yes, it is indexer bug.
After starting, two file will be modified:

Removing them won't solve the problem.

My pleasure. I was using POP3, and I can not test, what you advised any
more. But I remember that the false number was equal to the fresh
downloaded and by filter trashed mails' number. So this number has
always changed, when I recieved 34 mails, which have been moved to the
