I decided to go upstream and replace 19.10 by 20.04. I also slected 3rd party options to exclude the NVIDIA driver during install. I currently have no issues but know now how to report a bug when it appears. I may have a problem due to gdm "or" NVIDIA. You can open the link on any machine. apport-collect 1869565 is stuck on trying to open a page in a browser which is not available after dropping into a shell ctrl-alt-f2.
