I can reproduce the problem exactly as you described it on Dell Inspiron 1721. If I plug the power back I remain to see two battery icons (charging). While running on battery (I had to reboot for this to work) run "gksu update-manager" from the Run Application dialogue (Alt+F2), then click on "Check". Once checking is done I get 2 battery icons. It is most probably the same bug, but I cannot recreate it using "gksu update-manager". I can trigger this by running "gksu update-manager" on my HP nc6220 with Intrepid x86. I cannot seem to recreate the bug. I am not sure if this is relevant but it happened when I was using another power supply but not my own. There is a difference between the two - mine is 90W (since I have a bigger battery) and the other one is 60W. I tried again with the same 60W supply but the battery icon behaved properly.
