Bug is more than 2 years, old, confirmed, really annoying, probably
affecting much more people than those who took the time to report it,
probably easy checking and fixing, still undecided and unassigned.
So what ? Should we start torturing kitten until somebody puts a helping
hand on it ?

Login sound is too loud and
In Oneiric this seems to go in the wrong direction, i.e. it seems to be more
difficult for those (most users?) who don't like the login sound to figure out
how to disable it. In an attempt to prevent that, I posted a message to the
ubuntu-desktop mailing list:
I confirm this, having witnessed three people (plus me) being
inconvenienced by the volume level on five different laptops.
