From looking at gnome-nettool 2.31.6 in the the maverick release, the expectation of being able to edit the MTU information in place appears to me to be unreasonable or overly optimistic. The Configure button next to the chosen interface correctly brings up the Network Manager configuration tool for me, where the MTU and other settings can be changed. In contrast, gnome-nettool is designed only for viewing network-related information. So I don't see this as an issue of missing functionality.
