Indeed, I can't reproduce this with the Gutsy Tribe 4 live CD subsequent install. It's not an exhaustive test though because no notification bubbles are popping up just after installation (no updates available for testing I guess). Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Also, the issue that you reported is one that should be reproducable with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Gutsy Gibbon. As to why I think it's the notification popups, this is because after a fresh install, after logging in you get an 'updates' notification right away. Most of the time if I was quick I could click a menu before that appeared and that click worked, however after the notification had popped up sometimes I couldn't even dismiss it anymore. As to the applications that I use, that's the strange thing: I didn't customize anything at all. In fact I wiped ~/.gnome* and ~/.gconf* once (without being logged into X) to make sure that it wasn't a setting crash or something like that. This is a vanilla, totally nothing customized, first time login amd64 Edgy.
