As this is the last machine left to migrate, there is a very little
chance of anything going wrong. If we were to trust optimistic
estimates, GitLab will be back before 10 AM CET as remaining steps are
straightforward after the data is here – which is why the data is moved
overnight from Europe's perspective.

If Murphy's Law strikes again, the migration will be rescheduled for
another night.

Hi,
yes, I know. That's the reason why I moved to Friday releases.

It depends which part of the globe you reside, aka the time zone, how
your day is scheduled and so on.

Let's see how the things will go. Maybe I'm too "proactive" here.

By the way, the schedule for 3.38 is still open. I noticed your
thread on the release-team, dated like two weeks ago.

Tarballs are always due on Saturday. We don't have Monday deadlines
anymore.

I agree the timing is pretty unfortunate. I guess releasing today,
before the downtime, would be advisable, but there should still be
plenty of time to do so afterwards on Friday or Saturday if everything
goes as planned. If something goes unexpectedly wrong, we'll just have
to delay I guess.

It doesn't take much effort to get access outside a privilledged contianer
sadly. But maybe we can have a shared 'privilledged' runner that's setup in a
VM and gets wiped daily or such for the jobs outside the GNOME group that need
it, such as forked repos.

Hi,
it seems it clashes with 3.36.1 release schedule (to be done till 28th
this week), thus if anything goes wrong... I also moved to release on
Friday, instead of Monday (weekend is out of question here), thus
having git/gitlab.gnome.org unreachable for the whole morning makes it
difficult here. Or is it only about gitlab.gnome.org, thus
git.gnome.org will left unaffected? If so, then it's fine. If not, I
guess it's too late to postpone the migration and do it after the
release time, is it not?

GitLab migration: Thursday, March 26, starting 23 CET

2020-03-26 Thread Bartłomiej Piotrowski
Hello,

gitlab.gnome.org will be down during migration to the new data center
starting today at 23 CET. Unfortunately due to the amount of data it is
not feasible to migrate without downtime. As transferring the data will
take about 6 hours, we estimate it will be operational again between 9
and 12 CET on Friday, March 27. The code will be still accessible from
GitHub mirrors.

Let us know if you have any questions,
