Why not adapt Gnome versioning... gcalctool 2.19.x and such?
Because version 2.x.y of the [g]calctool source code was about 15-18

Hi Elijah,
I've just branched gcalctool (v5.9.14) for GNOME 2.18
Is there any chance we could we get you to make the minor version
number for gcalctool match that of GNOME's (e.g. 5.19.x for the next
unstable cycle)?
Yes. It's funny you should mention that. It's worked so well for Orca that

It appears that the gcalctool and gdm problems can be fixed by using a

gcalctool has been branched for gnome 2.10. Stable releases should
use the gnome-2-10 branch, while new development will continue on
CVS HEAD.
Thanks.
